The threat to all living beings on the Earth is twofold: on the one hand – natural cataclysms (cosmos effects, climate changes, more frequent volcanic eruptions, tsunami, etc.); on the other – negative phenomena created artificially by the man himself (military conflicts, diseases, hunger, political, economic, social crises, etc.). All these negative phenomena make intellectual people think about the real danger threatening our planet. Theses on the theory of civilizational development as a fundamental unity of mankind and environment are being elaborated. Can people withstand these negative factors? Of course, they can if they unite around rational ideology and find an intellectual way of development. Key words: Developmental potential of the world civilization, intellectual way of development, natural cataclysms, negative phenomena artificially created by mankind, planet and civilization in danger, theory of society (state) and world development, united mankind. |

The article is dedicated to features of economic development in Ukraine during the last five years, as well as the impact of intensive and extensive factors of economic growth. The author undertakes a comparative analysis of major macroeconomic indicators of economic development in the EU countries, USA, Russia, and Ukraine, and elaborates conclusions about the forms of economic reproduction in the selected countries. Finally, the author analyses the 2005 World Economic Forum’s competitiveness ranking of 117 countries and assesses the position of Ukraine against previous years, as well as elaborates recommendations regarding development and implementation of the intensive and innovative model of economic growth in Ukraine.

The paper analyses the models of lobbying used by special interest groups active in the market economies. The urgency of the research was conditioned by the fact that lobby causes decisive influence on the development of public sector economy, social goods financing and pragmatism of public choice in terms of democratic transformations. The author offers the ways to improve the interrelationship between the business and the state power by means of lobbying based on the European experience of public choice. To explain the strategic dimension of option pricing, it would be useful to address the very concept of the option. Options allow postponing the decision to a future point of time. This flexibility gives an opportunity to account for additional information. The flexibility of decision-making has its advantages and benefits as well. The article analyses the problem of option pricing on the example of probable states of nature. The authors explain how these possible states change the strategic choice of the player. The 2005 Nobel Prize for Economics has been awarded to Thomas Schelling and Robert Aumann. The Swedish Academy of Science has awarded them the prize for their work on conflict and cooperation in game theory. Thomas Schelling, who was born on April 14th, 1921, in Oakland, California (USA), teaches at the Department of Economics and School of Public Policy, at the University of Maryland. Since the mid-1950s, Schelling has been applying game theories to global security and arms races. His best-known book is the 'The Strategy of Conflict' (1960). The mathematician Robert Aumann was born on June 8th, 1930, in Frankfurt am Main (Germany). In 1938 he fled with his family from Germany to the USA. Since 1956 he has been living in Israel. He teaches at the Center for Rationality at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. Robert Aumann has provided significant contributions to cooperative game theory. He has also defined the concept of super-game, a situation which arises when setting prices on global financial markets with many market participants. |
